Evaluation of Filtration Media Containing Recycled Organic Materials for Stormwater Treatment
نویسنده
چکیده
Executive Summary This document outlines a range of research opportunities associated with the evaluation of stormwater filtration media containing recycled organic materials and other inputs. The resultant blend of materials is an engineered soil called Enviromedia. This document describes the desired research outcomes from CORE and UTS researchers. It also describes the current state of the stormwater treatment field in Australia. It is recognised that the scope of the research activities contained within this report is greater than the current funding arrangements for the project will support. From this report it should be possible to select and prioritise the research activities that will best meet the needs of the current project but also provide scope for future work.

Use of Functionalized Filter Media for Nutrient Removal in Stormwater Ponds
Many best-management practices (BMPs) currently used in urban regions have been developed to minimize flood risk, sustain downstream ecosystems, and secure the quality of groundwater sources either directly or indirectly. One such BMP is the reuse of stormwater by removing nutrients from the nutrient-laden “first flush” water collected in wet or dry ponds; this practice has led to the developme...
متن کاملModeling Kinetics and Isotherms of Functionalized Filter Media for Nutrient Removal from Stormwater Dry Ponds
Sorption media with mixes of some recycled materials, such as sawdust and tire crumbs, combined with sand/silt and limestone, become appealing in nutrient removal for promoting urban stormwater management with sustainability implications. This article aims to present a specific type of functionalized filter medium and examine its physicochemical process for nutrient removal with the aid of Lang...
متن کاملLaboratory Studies on Granular Filters and Their Relationship to Geotextiles for Stormwater Pollutant Reduction
Applications of geotextiles within tertiary stormwater treatment systems and for stormwater infiltration can provide a substrate for biofilm formation, enabling biological treatment of contaminants. Geotextiles can serve as an efficient part of stormwater filtration within the urban water environment. The project assessed the applications of three experimental granular filters as a sustainable ...
متن کاملAssessment of Biosorption Activated Media under Roadside Swales for the Removal of Phosphorus from Stormwater
Stormwater runoff from highways is a source of pollution to surface water bodies and groundwater. Excess loadings of phosphorus in stormwater discharged to surface water bodies can result in eutrophication. Treatment of stormwater for phosphorus is necessary in order to sustain ecological and economical benefits related to aquatic resources. If phosphorus is removed, the water can be sustained ...
متن کاملUse of Modified Pine Bark for Removal of Pesticides from Stormwater Runoff
Pesticide entrainment in stormwater runoff can contribute to non-point source pollution of surface waters. Granular activated carbon has been successfully used for removing pesticides from wastewater. However, implementation of granular activated carbon sorption media in stormwater filtration systems comes with high initial capital investment and operating costs. Modified pine barks offer attra...
